One of the greatest joys of owning the Yellow Flat is hearing how much our guests have enjoyed there experiences. Our flat has received consistent five star ratings from our guests. Here are their unedited comments.
"We arrived back home on Thursday evening, June 4 -- sorry I haven't written since then. Soon after we got home six assorted cousins arrived from Florida and Massachusetts and stayed until Sunday morning. Yikes, what a way to unwind from our trip! We finally are feeling organized and back to normal today.
So now let me say thanks and praise the apartment. It was so nice to feel part of a neighborhood and less like tourists in the yellow flat. Although we didn't spend much time there, it was a great place to come home to each evening and collapse! Everything was just lovely and we had such a good time. The convenience of the grocery store, the boulangerie so close by, as well as the Metro, the Eiffel Tower and restaurants. Excellent spot. The apartment was quiet, had everything we could possibly need and definitely felt like our home away from home.
And the only two people we know in Paris live only five blocks away.......what are the odds of that? We had perfect weather, walked miles to take in as much of the city as possible, became Metro experts and visited countless museums, and, although we got tired, we will never tire of Paris. I hope we will be able to return to the wonderful yellow flat again.
I am sorry that we kept Thierry waiting upon arrival. Our plane was late, the bus into Paris took longer than we thought it would, my cell phone wouldn't work and we were so jet-lagged we weren't thinking clearly. Therefore, we got to the apartment and didn't know what to do. I had assumed that Thierry lived there and we would just ring his doorbell to tell him we'd finally arrived. Not the case. I felt badly that he'd waited in vain, and sorry that his daughter had to come instead. Fortunately a lovely Asian woman who lives on the fifth floor invited me in to make the call on her phone to Thierry to tell him that we had finally arrived. She was truly our angel! So, after that awkward start, our vacation was flawless.
I would like to add two restaurants to your list and tell you that a visit to La Pere Claude was disappointing. At La Pere Claude we had so-so, uninteresting food, ghastly indifferent service and it was expensive. Perhaps it was an off night for them.
Anyway, we had delicious meals at two other local restaurants, you might want to try them next time you're there. La Gitane at 53 avenue de la Motte-Picquet: it was very good and had an imaginative menu, a little on the pricey side but very pleasant. And, our favorite -- we actually went two evenings -- was Le Suffren, 84 Avenue de Suffren, on the corner of Suffren and la Motte-Picquet. Both evenings it was jammed with French people, the service was cheerful and efficient and, yum, the food, particularly the soups and seafood were wonderful, and all at a decent price.
So, that's it for now. I must go make some dinner and pretend that the baguette that I bought in our local supermarket is as good as each and every piece of bread in Paris. Why can't the Americans make a decent baguette!?!?!?!
Once again, thank you. Ed and I had a marvellous 45th wedding anniversary trip and the yellow flat was a very important part of it!" posted June 8, 2009
"I recently spent five days at the Yellow Flat (April 2009), and truly enjoyed the opportunity to live domestically in the midst of a vibrant neighborhood. Making advance arrangements with the owner was most efficient, and we welcomed the services of Thierry, the site manager, who graciously answered our questions and facilitated our return travel to the airport. Furnished attractively, the apartment is adjacent to several metro stops and within easy walking distance to many of Paris’s top attractions (including the remarkable Musée de Quai Branley). The excellent bakery, supermarket and specialty foodshop around the corner are definite assets, and the well-equipped kitchen makes dining at home a pleasure. Internet access, a useful travel bookshelf, and top- quality appliances throughout the flat, ensured a pleasurable stay. I very much look forward to my next visit to the Yellow Flat." posted May 10, 2009.
"Thanks to Jules & Florence for sharing the apartment! My husband and I had a wonderful New Year's in Paris. The location was fantastic, close to the Metro and great cafes. We walked, and walked and walked! The apartment was bright and cheerful, clean and the perfect amount of space. Thierry was very helpful when we arrived and encouraged us to contact him if we needed anything while in the city. We look forward to staying in the Yellow Apartment next time we're in Paris." posted 2/2/09
"We are just home last night from our wonderful week in Paris. Your apartment is wonderful and was perfect for us. We can't say enough how much we enjoyed your place. We loved the instruction book with the pictures, the decor, the washer/dryer, the location, and the personal touches. The kitchen was well supplied and easy to work in. The nice bathroom and shower were also a plus. And, we couldn't believe how quiet the neighborhood was!! We will definitely be back and we also will recommend your place to friends and family Our experience was outstanding. Thank you so much." posted 10/22/08
"Our party of three--myself, my sister-in-law, and 18-year old niece--stayed in the apartment in July, 2008, and it was a great alternative to a hotel. Though compact, the apartment was very comfortable for a party of three, and we loved the neighborhood with lots of wonderful restaurants within walking distance, as well as groceries and markets. It's tucked away in a residential area off a main street, so it is quiet with a feeling of privacy, yet very convenient to everything. Jules was great to work with, and the apartment management was top notch. I would highly recommend this property to anyone." posted 10/21/08.
"The yellow flat is a sweet retreat in a busy, bustling and beautiful city. And it's near the Eiffel Tower which I loved. (It's also very close to a Metro stop.) The apartment has everything you need. Its miniature kitchen is very well equipped and I especially liked the stylish dinner ware. My husband was reading the guest entries and found that a friend had stayed there last year. What a coincidence! But it truly is a great place to settle in for a week or more. Oh, and the bi-weekly market is so handy. It took me about three minutes to select two bracelets there! But it offers much more--fresh fish, fruits, vegetables, etc. I'm just a little bit sorry that we didn't cook. And, most important, is the lovely patisserie right around the corner. My husband and I enjoyed their wonderful fresh (filled ) croissants at the flat every morning! Add a good cup or two of home-brewed coffee, and you're ready to take Paris by storm!" posted 10/12/08.
"Thank you for sharing your yellow apartment with us; it was great! The updated kitchen was beautiful, clean, and so efficient that my daughter and I prepared meals together. Everything we needed was right at hand. The nearby markets made shopping for fresh foods each evening easy. The bakery around the corner had great breads and pastries. We always felt safe, and the sound of children laughing in the evenings and someone practicing beginning clarinet once let us know it was a family neighborhood. It was so nice to have a quiet, comfortable place to return to each night with enough room for the four of us to read or to journal. Here is what we loved: the ceiling fan (did not need the air conditioner), the very comfortable beds, the washer/dryer, the storage space, the nearby metro, walking to the Eiffel Tower late at night, the secure entrance, the cool breeze through the open windows, the quiet neighborhood, your quick replies to our questions as well as the helpful info you sent us, and being met by Thierry! When we come back, we'll check with you first! Posted 7/16/08.
Thank you for sharing your terrific apartment for our trip to Paris. After 10 nights, we felt this was our home away from home. The location just cannot be beat...and we enjoyed the surrounding neighborhoods as well as the easy metro access to all of Paris. We found many great restaurants, and enjoyed our view of the Parisian sky at sunset every day. The street is quiet and we slept well. Your apartment really MADE the trip work. Thanks again." "Just a quick note to thank you. We had a great time in Paris. The apartment was centrally located and we can walk to the Eiffel Tower! The place had just what we needed, including a balcony that was utilized almost every morning/evening when we are in. The restaurant list was very useful. We love Mansouri----and it's only two metro stops from the apartment
I just want to mention "Fat Tire" Bike Tour in Versailles. Their headquarter in Paris is a 5 minutes walk from the apartment and they do a great bike tour. Everyone there speaks English and the tour is done in English. The tour takes you riding in the streets of Paris from their headquarter to the RER station. You then board your train to Versailles' open market to get stables for your picnic before riding the grounds. We had a great time and thought your guests might like it, too.
It was nice to work with you. Everything was so easy and I love the fact that you replied very quickly to any questions or concerns that we had. Thierry was great and very personable. Thank you." Posted 9/27/07.
"Thank you for sharing your cozy flat with us. We enjoyed all of the modern upgraded amenities. We visit Paris annually and your flat by far was the most comfortable and thoughtfully laid out.
The neighborhood feels safe. We walked to Eiffel Tower at 10 PM to see it lit up in the evening sky. Having 2 kids this was something we couldn't do before.
We appreciated the "yellow flat" instruction book too. I know it must have taken a lot time to create, but it is very thoughtful and reflects well upon you. We promise to return." Posted 5/23/07.
